Figure l -
Adipose tissue signaling proteins may be produced in fat by
adipocytes, mesenchymal/stromal cells, and mononuclear cells. They act
through paracrine/autocrine and endocrine effects and several cross
the blood brain barrier into the hypothalamus. The
concentrations of these adipokines rise
with increasing fat mass with the exception of
adiponectin, which declines. IL-6 (interleukin-6), RAS (renin
angiotensin system), ASP (acylation stimulating protein), PAI-l
(plasminogen activator inhibitor-1), TNF (tumor necrosis factor-
), 11 HSD (11 hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase). |
