I
am writing to introduce an educational and support resource for children
with genital and reproductive anomalies and their families. The
MAGIC Foundation, a national non-profit organization dedicated to
helping children who are affected by growth disorders, has created a new
division called GRAC (Genital and Reproductive Anomalies in Children).
GRAC focuses on a wide range of conditions and syndromes that result
from disorders of sexual differentiation. A partial list of syndromes
that GRAC covers includes Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, Androgen
Insensitivity syndrome, Bladder Exstrophy, Mayer Rokitansky syndrome,
Turner syndrome and Klinefelter syndrome.
As
you well know, these conditions can create significant psychological
challenges that may follow an individual into adulthood. This division
hopes to provide families with emotional and educational support through
family and patient networking, access to reliable medical and
psychological information, and a growing medical professional database.
MAGIC has a successful twelve-year history as a nationwide support
group. The ad hoc Committee on Intersex of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric
Endocrine Society serves as a professional advisory board to GRAC.
Having expert doctors and psychologists to use as resources will help
the staff at MAGIC better serve these families. It is the policy
of The MAGIC Foundation and all of its divisions to leave
recommendations for clinical management to qualified healthcare
professionals.
Please consider utilizing The MAGIC Foundation’s newest division as a
resource for your patients and their families. I encourage you to call
MAGIC’s national headquarters at 1-800-362-
4433 or email me at
magicgrac@aol.com with any questions.
